Basic wheel maintenance

Gemini wheels are built by hand, one at a time, and trued in a professional wheel truing stand. We pre-stress/stretch and seat the spokes by using a long flat stainless steel bar, placed between the spokes, inside the 9 "diamonds" on each side, and give it a good push and pull. This helps the spoke heads find "home", and aids in the proper tensioning of the spoke. This process is done 2 to 3 times during the truing of the wheel. Even with this process, we cannot compare with the stress that the spokes will see once installed on your bike.

Please remember to check your spokes before and after a ride. Tighten and true as needed. This is important to the longevity of your wheel. Engines need a break in period , so do new wheels. After a few rides you'll find that your spokes need less tensioning as they settle and stretch.

Gemini hubs are equipped with sealed bearings, but like any bearing still require general upkeep and occasional re-lube. Keep them clean by wiping them with a rag or paper towel. It's a good idea when doing general wheel maintenance, to pop off the outside seal and check if you're bearing needs a shot of grease. Gemini recommends Lucas red n tacky bearing grease. It's what we use in them before shipping to you. You can remove the seal by using a disposable box cutter type of razor, and inserting it carefully between the outside edge of the seal where it meets the outer bearing race. Then just lift up carefully to avoid damaging the seal. The seal pops right back in with finger pressure.

We hope you enjoy your Gemini wheels and hubs, and with basic maintenance, they will give you many trouble free miles. Thanks riders!
